Curb appeal is usually judged at two in the afternoon
People spend serious effort on the exterior: paint, shutters, a new door, beds, mulch, a walkway. All of it assumes the sun is up. Then the sun goes down and none of it is visible. For a solid stretch of the year, most passersby only ever see the house at night.None of that is complicated: an outline, a focal point, and matched color. What it requires is deciding to treat the night view as a real thing, which almost nobody does. The houses that stand out after dark are almost always the ones where somebody thought about it.
What actually changes the view
From a moving car or across the street, nobody sees detail. What carries is silhouette and contrast. That means the roofline, the entry and one or two features do almost all the work. A lit roof edge gives the house a shape. A lit entry gives it a focal point. An accent or two creates dimension.
The everyday setting
The purchase conversation is usually about holidays. What gets the hours is warm white. Warm white looks like design, not decor. That is the setting responsible for the curb appeal argument, and it is the one people forget to ask about.

A commercial property is judged from the road exactly the same way. Lit buildings stay in people's heads. Dark ones get forgotten.
What else is visible
Almost every plan is written for the front elevation only. But a house on a corner has two front elevations whether you planned for it or not, and most houses are visible at an angle rather than straight on. An outline ending mid building looks incomplete. Carrying the line past the corner fixes it, and it is a design decision, not an upsell.
Where to start if the budget is small
If a budget only stretches to one thing, light the front door. A lit entry tells the eye where to land, which is the difference between a lit house and a lit shape. Curb appeal and usefulness land on the same fixture, which does not happen often.
